Dr. Bowers Du Toit’s main research interest is the subject
of ‘Theology and Development’ and the intersection between
the two. Her doctoral work dealt largely with the role of
the church in addressing the challenge of poverty in South
Africa and critically discussed a theological framework in
order to understand the roots of poverty from a
theological perspective. She is particulary interested in
the role theology plays as a motivator or hindering factor
in the church engaging poverty and has been part of
several national and international research projects
regarding this topic. She has published in several South
African theological journals, including Missionalia, NGTT
and the Journal of Theology in South Africa. Two of her
articles will appear shortly as chapters shortly in
Religion and Social Development in Post-Aparthied South
Africa: Perspectives for critical engagement,
edited by
Swart, I. & Green, S. and Erasmus, J.C.
As the
Director of Student Affairs at Cornerstone, she is
passionate about ‘people development’ and she enjoys
interacting with and learning from students from various
backgrounds and cultures.
